2026 Elections
General Election - November 3, 2026
Vote by Mail - Begins September 18, 2026
- To have a ballot mailed to you, you must apply for an absentee ballot.
- Apply for an absentee ballot online from the Minnesota Secretary of State Website
- Voted absentee ballots can be mailed to Hennepin County or dropped off at City Hall during regular business hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- If you drop off your ballot at City Hall on Election Day, it must be returned by 5 p.m.
- Return your ballot promptly. Ballots received after Election Day cannot be counted.

Early Voting in Person - Begins October 16, 2026
- You can early vote in person at City Hall before an election. Early voting is more like voting in a polling place on Election Day. You will complete the voter certificate, receive a ballot, mark your ballot, and insert your ballot into the ballot tabulator.
- Early voting will be available at City Hall for 18 days before the election starting October 16.
- Regular hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Additional hours:
- Saturday, October 24, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Tuesday, October 27, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturday, October 31, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Sunday, November 1, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Monday, November 2, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Monday, August 10, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Other Voting Information
Hennepin County Offers Additional In-Person Absentee Voting
Residents who wish to vote earlier than the city’s 18-day early voting period may vote absentee in person at the Hennepin County Elections Office beginning 46 days before Election Day (June 26 for State Primary, September 18 for General Election).
Military and Overseas Voters
If you are in the military or residing overseas, there is a different process for applying and voting by absentee ballot. Please contact Hennepin County Elections Office at 612-348-5152 or visit the Hennepin County website for more information.
College Student
College students should register to vote from the address they currently consider home. For many students, this is likely a school address or a parent's house. If you still go back home to visit but no longer consider it your home, you should register to vote where you live at school. Visit the Secretary of State website for more information.
In a Resident Facility
If you live in a residential facility (nursing home, assisted-living facility, etc.) and need to register to vote, a staff person can go with you to the polling place to confirm your address. You can also vote by absentee ballot or agent delivery, and registration materials will be provided with your ballot, if necessary. Visit the Secretary of State website for more information.
Fear for Your Personal Safety
Your name and address are public when you register to vote. However, if you have safety or privacy concerns, there are ways to register and vote without making your information public. Visit the Secretary of State website for more information.

Criminal Records
Having a criminal record does not affect your right to vote in Minnesota unless you are currently incarcerated for a felony conviction. Visit the Secretary of State website for more information.
Living Temporarily in Minnesota
You cannot vote in Minnesota if you are living here temporarily. However, you can still vote in your home state's election with an absentee ballot.
Moving On or Close to Election Day
If you are moving between states near Election Day, you will need to check how many days you need to reside in your new state before you can vote there. To vote in Minnesota, you must live in the state for at least 20 days before Election Day.
If you are moving within the state near Election Day, you must register to vote from the address you currently consider home.
Homeless
If you are experiencing homelessness, you can register to vote using the location where you sleep as your address. You may need to go to the polling place with someone who can confirm where you are living. Visit the Secretary of State website for more information.
