Candidate Filing
Medina’s City Council includes a mayor and four council members. The mayor serves a two-year term of office and council members are elected at-large to serve four-year terms. The follow City Council seats will be on the November 3, 2026, general election ballot for terms that begin in January 2027:
- Mayor (two-year term)
- Councilmember (four-year term)
- Councilmember (four-year term)
Candidate Requirements
- Candidate must be an eligible voter.
- Candidate is, or will be on assuming the office, 21 years of age or older.
- Maintained residence in Medina for 30 days before the general election.
Filing Period
The filing period for the above seats is Tuesday, July 14, 2026 through 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The deadline to withdraw is 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 30. Individuals wishing to file must file with the City Clerk.
How to File
File in-person at City Hall during regular business hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be extended hours until 5 p.m. on the last day of the filing period.
The following forms and fee are required to be filed with the City Clerk when filing for office. Forms will be provided at City Hall.
Upon filing, you will be provided a candidate filing packet with resources and forms regarding candidacy and campaign finance.
Campaign Finance Reports
City Council candidates must complete Campaign Financial Reporting Forms
- The initial report is due within 14 days after receiving contributions or making disbursements of more than $750.
- Subsequent reports are due:
- 10 days before the primary or special primary (even if candidate is not on primary ballots)
- 10 days before the general election or special election
- 30 days after the general election or special election
- By Jan. 31 of each year until a final report is filed
- A final report is due when all assets are settled and all assets are disposed of in excess of $100.
