Flock - Automated License Plate Readers

The Medina Police Department uses Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) provided by Flock Safety to assist in criminal investigations and enhance public safety.

ALPR cameras capture objective vehicle information, such as license plates and vehicle characteristics, to help officers identify vehicles connected to crimes. The technology is primarily used to conduct retroactive searches after crimes have occurred, and to provide real-time alerts when vehicles associated with stolen vehicles, wanted persons, or other law enforcement hotlists are detected.

To promote transparency and accountability, the department has launched the Flock Transparency Portal. This public portal allows community members to view information about how ALPR technology is used in Medina, including department policies, usage statistics, data sharing practices, and the safeguards in place to protect privacy.
